We spent the rest of the day at the house. Paul bought some chisels and chiseled out a recess for the bolt plates in the front door so we could install the handleset and deadbolt and lock up the house. For the first time our house is lockable.
We had picked up our house numbers at Lowe's and mounted them to the front of the house. :-) We took down our shattered board with the house number and building permit and mounted the permit in the front picture window.
And we worked on cleaning up the front door. We had never taken the protective film off the door. This may have been an error. The film was stuck tight and left ghosts of all the lettering stuck to the door. It took hours of scrubbing with GoJo, Orange Miracle and whatever else we could find to get most of it off. What a nasty job.
And that was Saturday. Paul locked the house. Shawn would be coming over on Sunday to fix the problem with sealing up the attic in the front bedroom as the inspector required.
Sunday morning Paul went to the house to unlock it for Shawn, only to find the door open and Shawn finishing up his work and getting ready to leave. Turns out he went over the wall through the unfinished soffit. o.O Good grief.
So we thought we were ready. The fireplace guys would be coming the next day, the inspection would be in the afternoon, and that would be that.
At 3:45 we went out to the lot, to find....
The siding not quite done. The peak of the garage roof was partially uncovered, and the gable vent seemed too high.
No fireplace vent installation, and
A failed building inspection sticker, with three problems:
- No fireplace vent installation (duh)
- The attic not sealed up correctly (?!)
- The silt fence not correctly installed
Phone calls were made to the inspector, Tony the siding crew supervisor, Dale the fireplace guy and to Shawn. Dale answered first with no idea why his crew didn't show up and no answer from them when he called. He would ensure they would show up the next day. He had better.
Tony called back next. They were short a single piece of fascia material. We'll call Bob about that tomorrow. Apparently we also had two boxes of siding left over. Seems excessive. We'll ask Bob about that too. Apparently the gable vent location near the peak is correct. Okay. Just looks weird, likely because the fascia siding is missing.
Haven't heard from the others yet. Will follow up in the morning.
But some good news too. The inspector approved our shower. Yay! We will drain the water tomorrow and when we get around to it we will install the backerboard and tile.
In other news, Paul ran the budget, called Debbie at Milwaukee Title for our balance and found that we are still on budget. :-) Also called WE Energies for an install date on our electric service. They said they should start this week and ought to be done by the end of next week at the latest. Good news there but it would be nice if they would be done this week so the drywall guys don't have to bring a generator too. It's possible we're bringing in the insulation and drywall guys too soon yet. We may have to delay them a little.
Also, it appears we finally have the cabinets ordered. Unsurprisingly, there was confusion about the order - Bob called to tell us that he thought we were getting Diamond cabinets; we are actually ordering Mid-Continent Cabinetry's Savannah Arch cabinets. Totally different ordering processes, as MCC cabinets come from UBC instead of direct from the manufacturer. Katie had been operating as though we were getting Diamond cabinets. So we don't have any of the paperwork needed to buy MCC cabinets. *grr* Bob and UBC are fixing it somehow. More power to them, as long as we get our cabinets.
Tomorrow will be an interesting day, and not necessarily the good kind of interesting. Paul will be anxiously expecting his workers to finish up, fixing his silt fence, pulling the rest of the cable and handling the fact that the insulation guys are supposed to be coming in two days and we're not ready. :-/ Hoping for luck. We'll need it.
