Around suppertime we decided to get the pickup and get a head start on moving (more importantly, to start decluttering the condo.) Paul went and was surprised to find the entire front yard torn up. Midwest was there and connecting the house to city water and sewer. Surprise!
They were just finishing up. Rich was operating the loader, sorting our fill into piles and straightening up the driveway. Elliott and Randy, the other plumbers, were cleaning up the pipe and other mess left lying all over the garage and yard. Paul called Kathy, and everyone came over. We watched them work for an hour or so, when they left. They had disturbed the rock in the front yard. They were going to put it back, but as long as they were moving it anyway we had them move it to its final location in the front corner of the lot.
We now have a main shutoff valve. It's in the basement, about halfway up the wall (right in reach of the kids....) by the main cleanout, right under the east corner of the front bedroom. That space is intended for a rec room. We'll have to build a closet around it or something; not only to hide it but to keep the kids out. Anyway, when the valve is opened water comes pouring out. There's no water meter. We have free water. Only problem is that the valve was mounted to open up straight up. Catching it will be a challenge. :) Maybe we'll install a hose or something temporarily.
So that was exciting. They will be back after the cabinets and countertops are installed to install all the water and waste lines and the fixtures, a process that will take three days. So we have a few weeks to pick out all our faucets and whatnot.
In other news......
We have a drywall sub. Jon called this afternoon with a bid of $7500 ($2000 less than anyone else) including materials. President Homes was going to supply materials. We canceled President Homes' package, which will save us $2660. Since it's already paid for we'll have to have them issue us a check which we'll see next month.
Paul had Bob send us a list of all materials they were to deliver yet. Among them was the now-canceled drywall, the interior doors and the door handles. Guess we get to buy our own millwork. We need to start thinking about that.
Overhead Door will be coming around July 26 to install the garage door and opener.
Allied Insulation should be starting around July 23. Maybe we can move them up if they're amenable. The electric inspection will be done tomorrow and we will call for the carpentry and plumbing inspections for Monday or Tuesday after we finish the shower pan over the weekend. With those done, we're ready for insulation. When that is done and inspected we could have Jon come in. If everything breaks right we could have the building phase of this project done by the end of July. What are the odds we get that lucky?
