Flatwork begins

In all the hustle and bustle we didn't forget the concrete folks were coming by today to pave the garage floor and pour the front stoop.

Nobody went to the house until almost four. This is the scene when we got there:

As we walked around we noted that they had filled the stoop with stone, as requested, filled a bit of the window well with stone, and left the rest in the driveway. We also noticed they had poured the missing footing and spread plastic sheeting down as a vapor barrier all over the basement floor (and used our brand new $150 telescoping ladder bought at F&F on Saturday to get down there, which was left pretty messy.) That's all right though, it'll clean up. The basement floor will be poured on Wednesday. Today is just the garage and stoop. That's fine. Anyway, soon they were spreading concrete around the garage, and then the stoop.

And when they were done pouring it looked like this

We left, and returned a couple hours later. They had finished with the cream coat and were on their way home with the paving already too hard for us to dent with our fingers. The results:

Nice.

In other news, on Saturday we went to Lowe's to pick out a bathtub for the main bathroom. Bringing it home in the pickup was no problem, getting it in the house was only a minor problem, but once inside we found we couldn't get it into the bathroom. :( Paul asked Shawn about that the next day. He said we'd have to cut down the stud at the drain end of the tub and slide it right through the wall; that was the best way. He also said the plumbers would do it. Okay by us.

Shawn came Sunday morning to help put shingles on the roof. Paul stood on the pallet and was lifted up to the roof, where he started to unload bundles. Shawn climbed up the ladder and helped unload, as Paul was moving really slow. Got pretty out of shape after the knee injury, it seems. Time to go back to the gym.

But even with that done, the roofers failed to show up Monday. Hmmmm. A call was placed to Tony at 4:30, not yet answered as of this writing.

We also called Rich, the plumber. Over the weekend we decided that the odd size of the master bath shower area (56x33) eliminated the use of a purchased shower pan, and we thought we might go with all tile. The book at Lowe's explained how to make the concrete shower pan and it looked pretty straightforward, but Paul called Rich to see if making this might fall within their purview. If so it would save us some time and labor.

Bob informed Paul this morning that the rest of the siding had been backordered and would be delivered today. It was.

And finally, KC Drywall / Master Repair was contacted to submit a drywall bid. They came to the jobsite just after five to pick up a plan. We'll wait for that. The bid from the place in Delafield was awfully high and we think we probably won't use them.

Unless the roofer shows up we won't have any action tomorrow. I guess we'll see.
