Thursday morning updates

Wednesday night. Time to reset and get everyone back in the loop. We checked the city's permit requirements, and found we needed to schedule some inspections fairly soon - foundation, underfloor plumbing and basement floor. Paul called Elite to ask about wall and floor permits. A voicemail arrived shortly afterwards (that's strange, why didn't the phone ring?) advising that we'd have to call for the wall inspection ourselves, and that it should be done the afternoon before backfill. Okay, no problem. But she didn't understand why we were asking about the basement floor inspection, because that wouldn't be done for six to eight weeks.

Um, WHAT? Our schedule called for flatwork to be done before framing. And even if it were done afterwards, six to eight weeks is way too long.

Anyway, we also left a message for the framer, and one for the plumber asking him to remind us when he needed to be contacted because we forgot, and e-mails for Bob asking what he thought. We also asked him about the cabinet designer, because we haven't heard from her in two months, and mentioned a issue with the basement window. Paul was looking at the materials list, and saw that the window trim was champagne color. We would have preferred white. We asked him if it could be changed.

The replies came back early in the morning today. Rich, the plumber, called back early to remind us that he needed to know when the trusses were on and the roof boards would be installed. Okay, no problem. That's a while away yet. Bob said we needed to check with the HVAC guy if the basement floor needed to be done before the HVAC would go in (obviously, the furnace has to sit on the floor.) Well, the plumber is also the HVAC guy, so we had to call Rich again anyway. He expected the floor to be done shortly after the roof was on so we needed to get the floor done in about a month, not six to eight weeks.

Bob also put us in touch with Katie the cabinet designer, who thought we hadn't gotten back to her approving our draft plan. We thought we had. We'll get it straightened out soon. We should have a little time on this. Also, the window had already been ordered and they couldn't change it anymore. Hmmmmm. Paul called Jessica at Pella to see if it really was too late for this. She said she'd check and get back to us.

Shawn, the framer, called to say he'd start on June 4. Okay, no problem. Apparently the materials will still be delivered on May 31 and sit until Monday. Something having to do with quotas of getting material out before the end of the month. Good grief. Oh well, what are you gonna do. Shawn implied that the wall panels are already done and sitting at the lumberyard in Lomira waiting for delivery. Cool.

Finally, a briskly toned message to Elite advising them we needed the floor done in four weeks or we'd bring in somebody else. Can you tell we're just a little bit skittish dealing with them? :) She replied shortly after telling us that 6-8 weeks was just a guess, she only needed two weeks' notice as to a date when the underfloor plumbing would be done and she would schedule it and have her guys out on time.

Oh. Okay. That'll work.

The excavator's wife/office manager called Paul too. She was wondering if we would get an early draw to pay the bill they had sent. He told her she'd get paid by the due date on the 30th.

Just waiting to hear from the window company yet, and the siding/roofing contractor now to advise him of the new start date for framing. We'll have to start getting bids for drywallers and the rest of the crew we'll need to finish the house. Maybe tomorrow. We need a break. :)
