The foundation, part 3: The complete f@)&##up.

Monday night, May 7.
The owner of the foundation company reported to the job site with forms in tow to set footings. Paul was in attendance.
They couldn't set footings, because the survey stakes were gone.
Argh. AAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!

Why? Dunno. Were they disturbed when the excavator came back in to clean out one of the many cave-ins that have been occurring over the last few days when the rain weakened the walls? Were they stolen by kids playing in the lot? We have no way of knowing.

Now they tell us the schedule is screwed up and - get this - they don't know when they can fit me back in ??!!?? Sheesh. How about you fit us back in when we're ready. But they told us they might have to sub-subcontract the job to another concrete firm that's short of work because they're so overbooked. Whatever you need to do, lady. Just get it done. You mishandled your job scheduling, you fix it. About three weeks ago would be a good time to start.

Here at home, much screaming ensued. Kathy is ready to kill the first person she can get her hands on. We e-mailed Bob looking for advice. He didn't have much to offer but suggested we let Elite subcontract the job as that would be the fastest way to get the job done, which is the only real goal here. And we need to get moving. Travis Brothers sent a bill for excavation work because they got tired of waiting. The pit has 3" of rain water; the bottom is clay and it does not drain so it's been standing there for a long time. Frustrations are running sky high.

May 8 dawned. The ever-reliable surveyor, the one oasis of competence in this entire screwed-up mess, went out and replaced the stakes in the afternoon. We told Elite. They said they'd be back on Thursday the 10th.
