They took our signed certificate and draw request forms, the W-9, the cost breakdown schedule, a copy of the plat of survey and a copy of the building permit. Problem: We needed lien waivers from the companies that had provided services to us. A lien waiver is a document from the subcontractor stating that they had been paid and thus would agree to not put a lien against the property. Well, let's see. The only people who had done work for us to date were Edgewood, Travis Construction and Elite Concrete. So Paul called all three. Travis' office manager/wife faxed the paperwork over immediately. Amy at Elite called to say that since they hadn't been paid they couldn't give a lien waiver (duh) but without the cash in hand to pay them, we had to make other arrangements. Apparently the way this is done is that Milwaukee Title would cut a check directly to Elite. Phone calls and arrangements were made, so that'll work. Nothing from Edgewood yet. That's okay, we don't need them until the checks are ready next week.
As Paul wrote this his phone rang. It was the driver of UBC's (the lumberyard) truck calling to verify the address. He was already on the lot. We thought they were going to call when they left the yard in Lomira to give us a chance to get there, but unsurprisingly that didn't happen......We'll go check it out after work. Paul told them to leave the materials on the neighbor lot. Should be all right there until next week when Shawn comes out to work. Reminder - need to call for a dumpster on site for Monday.
We were annoyed to find that the lumber was not tarped and that a few OSB boards were left exposed. Not seeing how this is a good thing. We specifically asked for them to be tarped. There's not a lot of exposed material, but still......

Debbie from Milwaukee Title called back. Apparently Paul didn't fill out the cost-to-complete form right, all the money that was going for closing costs and to President Homes wasn't included. Sigh. Thought we didn't need that. Anyway, will have to leave her a message with those numbers as she's out of the office Friday.
That'll probably be it until next week when the framing starts.
